After selling the pickup truck earlier this year, I am finding the loss of that bed to be an issue. I have had a DR Power ATV trailer for over a decade that works incredibly well at the house. "At the house" is key. That ATV trailer is not road-legal, and there have been too many times when I've needed to move things around or pick up items outside the house. I was initially looking for a basic...
PoindAXster is nerding in the woods. Nerds love gear (Poindexter). And Alex (Ax) likes playing outside. Here are the adventures of an outdoor nerd.

			GX460 first time out
A few friends got me out on the early-season trails in Killington, Vermont. The fun part about the early season (April & May) is that the trails are super raw with fallen trees and washouts. We came across our share of both! Since my truck didn't have armor yet, we planned to stick to green and blue trails. The washouts had different ideas. Due to the technical issues on the trail, I forgot...
A tastful approach to IR Chrome (Candy Chrome Infrared)
Candy Chrome or IR Chrome, however you wish to call it, was developed for the Vietnam War. I haven't tried it yet, but it is supposed to be excellent at finding people covered in camouflage in dense jungle vegetation. One of these days, I will test how well it does that in the sweltering heat of the dense Vermont jungle. In the meantime, it is a fun little effect to play with on landscape shots....
2020 Lexus GX460 in da house!
This truck has been a long journey. It started in January of 2024 hunting for a 2008 to 2015 LX570 every morning. I figured spending a bit more on the LX would negate some of the mods I'd want to do to a GX. So, I put the 2005 F350 and 2014 Mercedes E350 up for sale to fund the next vehicle. Both sold fairly quick and then my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer followed by a layoff. We spent...
Angry Sparrow build from Furitek
Now we're talking! This mean little beast is heavy, powerful, and insanely nimble. I'm so stoked with this build! You can rarely put things together and have a smooth experience. This one was surprisingly easy to do. Parts list: Furitek Angry Sparrow frame Furitek Python ESC, Cedar Motor, and GT5 integration 2x Meus Racing Isokinetic front axles 2x NSDRC RS100 Limited Edition Red steering servos...
Axial AX24 Build
I said a Big Build is Coming, and that was true. However, I intended to convert a stock AX24 into something nuts, but a funny thing happened. I thoroughly enjoyed the AX24 out of the box. After watching numerous YouTube videos and reading multiple posts from people in 1/24 RC car Facebook groups complaining about the AX24 performance I thought it needed serious help. So I bought a bunch of parts...
Axial GX470 is now heavily modded
That didn't take long! The GX470 arrived a little after Christmas, and roughly 1 month later, she's about as built as I want to take her <famous last words>. She has the flex. She has the power. She turns on a dime. And she can crawl slooooooooow. So what does she have? Mickey Thompson Baja Pro 1.0″ Tires on Black Holcomb Wheels Pro-Line Big Bore Shocks @34mm with 25wt oil EcoPower Aluminum...

A big build is coming!
Is this a hobby? Is it playing with man toys? I don't know, and I don't care. This is fun! And addicting. With the Axial AX24 as a base, I have enough parts on the way to turn this from a plastic-top-heavy toy into a mountain-crawling-brass-carbon-fiber beast. It will be unrecognizable. Why the Axial AX24? Two damn fine reasons: Ax is in the name, and it has dual steering. I'm Ax - that was an...
RC Course Volcano
This was a fun project with the kids. It made them want to go to Home Depot even though Halloween decorations were not present! Spoiler alert: it was too steep for our SCX24 rigs. We had two chunks of pink foam-board insulation from a renovation, which proved to be a great RC course-building material. I also have a few replacement panels for our "Race Deck" garage flooring that served as a good...
Pink Axial Base Camp Mods
My 4-year-old daughter's mind was blown when she saw her pink wheels on her pink truck. That brought a smile to my face. She cared about pink and I care about things working as expected. I also wanted to try modding for the first time. Beadlock Wheels & Sticky Fat Tires When it comes to pink SCX24 wheels, there aren't many options. On Amazon, we found the OGRC 1.0 Deep Dish rims with some...
SCX24 RC Cars for the Kids
Wow! I knew the kids enjoyed playing with my GX470, but I had no idea how uniting these things would be. I bought these for the 4 and 8-year-olds, but the 15-year-old came out of his cave and played with us, too. That was worth the price! The 4- and 15-year-olds get along well, but everyone fights with the 8-year-old. Seeing all three kids running the RC cars together made me a happy dad. Also,...
